国庆节旨在庆祝一个国家的诞生（birth of a nation），一般都伴随着一个假期（national holiday）。中国的国庆节（National Day of the People s Republic of China）在每年的10月1日。

世界各国国庆节名称和日期的确定是不相同的：

● 称为“国庆节”（National Day）的有中国、爱尔兰、希腊、卢森堡、法国等国；

● 称为“独立日”（Independence Day）的有美国、墨西哥、马尔代夫等国；

● 有的国家会加上“国家名”，如“加拿大日”（Canada Day）、“澳大利亚日”（Australia Day）；

●有的国家的国庆日是庆祝国王或女王的诞辰，如丹麦女王日（Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Margaret Ⅱ）、荷兰女王日（Queen s Day）、比利时国王日（King s Day）；

● 有的国家称为“共和国日”，如意大利共和国日（Republic Day of Italy）、南斯拉夫共和国日（Republic Day of Yugoslavia）。

10月1日，天安门广场将隆重举行庆祝中华人民共和国成立70周年大会（2019年），庆祝大会后将举行盛大的阅兵式和群众游行。国庆大阅兵将安排部分先进武器装备首次亮相。
