Subtitling Television Series: A Corpus-Driven Study of Police Procedurals

This book focuses on one of the two most common modes of audiovisual translation for this type of product: subtitling. The naturalness that is expected in television dialogue together with the spoken-to-written medium conversion entailed in subtitling pose a challenge for professionals, who have been typically blamed for neutralising the source dialogue. Little to no empirical evidence, however, has been provided to effectively address this issue to date.

Corpus-Assisted Translation Teaching: Issues and Challenges

This book sheds new light on corpus-assisted translation pedagogy, an intersection of three distinct but cognate disciplines: corpus linguistics, translation and pedagogy. 作者简介

Kanglong Liu is an Assistant Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research interests include corpus-based translation studies, language and translation pedagogy and translation studies of “Hong Lou Meng”. Dr. Liu has worked and taught in a few universities in Hong Kong after obtaining Ph.D. in Translation from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is currently Associate Editor of Translation Quarterly, the official publication of the Hong Kong Translation Society. It is noteworthy that he has published widely in scholarly journals, such as Chinese Translators Journal, Translation Quarterly, Journal of Translation Studies, Literary and Linguistic Computing while also serving as Executive Committee Member of the Hong Kong Translation Society and Member of Executive Committee of the Translators Association of China.

The Translation of European Union Legislation. A Corpus-based Study of Norms and Modality

This volume is a study into the norms that come into play in the translation of European Union legislation. With a focus on expressions of modality, the study adopts a corpus-based Descriptive Translation Studies approach to analyse the translation strategies used in a bilingual English/Italian parallel corpus of European Union legislation and identify the most frequent translational patterns. The book outlines the principles at the basis of the multilingual policy at the European Union and provides a detailed outline of the context in which the drafting and translation processes take place as a key to understanding the translational choices.

Fascinating Transitions in Multilingual Newscasts: A corpus-based investigation of translation in the news
