(International Congress of Fundraising - The Resource Alliance)、国家地理和世界经济论坛发表演讲。

About HOW International

For every artist-in-residence, the program will provide individualized arrangements, including visits to museums, galleries, alternative spaces, artist studios along with meetings with art professionals. In addition to accommodation and working space, HOW Art Museum covers the cost of travel, insurances and per diem expenses.

About Artist-in-residence

Angélica Dass

Angélica Dass is an award-winning photographer living in Madrid, Spain. Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, she is acutely aware of how small differences in skin tone can swell into large misconceptions and stereotypes about race. She is the creator of the internationally acclaimed Humanæ Project, a collection of portraits that reveal the diverse beauty of human colors. The initiative has traveled to more than 31 cities, in 18 countries, across six continents —from The World Economic Forum in Davos to the pages of National Geographic — to promote dialogue that challenges how we think about skin color and ethnic identity.

In 2016, her career launches to new dimensions with her TED Global Talk, confirming the great potential of her work to go beyond photography, becoming a tool for social change, which promotes dialogue and challenges cultural prejudices. Today, this TED talk exceeds two million views. As part of the TED Residency 2018, she presented her new TED talk which was published in October 2018.

Angélica’s work transcends the museums and finds in school classrooms a great universe of work. She amplifies the educational message of Humanæ through institutional collaborations around the world, such as collaborations with city councils of different cities in the Basque Country, teacher training schools in Madrid, high schools in the Czech Republic, or with UNESCO and the Government of Chile, reaching an impact of more than 50 thousand students in a week. She is also a powerful and inspiring speaker who has lectured at important organizations, such as the University of Salamanca, the University of Bologna, or the UERJ - Rio de Janeiro; as well as the International Congress of Fundraising - The Resource Alliance, at National Geographic and at the World Economic Forum, as a cultural leader.

This career path leads Angélica to fund the Humanæ Institute, a non-profit educational platform with the objective to position diversity as a value in the educational process.

Dass’ Ongoing Project at HOW

& Open Call for Volunteers

Humanæ is a work in progress by the Brazilian Angélica Dass, who intends to deploy a chromatic range of the different human skin colors. Those who pose are volunteers who have known the project and decide to participate. There is no previous selection of participants and there are no classifications relating to nationality, gender, age, race, social class or religion. Nor is there an explicit intention to finish it on a specific date. It is open in all senses and it will include all those who want to be part of this colossal global mosaic. The only limit would be reached by completing all of the world’s population.

This taxonomy adopts the format of the PANTONE® Guide, which gives the sample a degree of hierarchical horizontality that diluted the false preeminence of some races over others in terms of skin color. The presentation of the range of color shades induce the viewer to reflect on one of the dual meanings containing the word identity: that associated with equality. Humanæ activates a semantic mechanism with an “innocent” displacement of the socio-political context of the racial problem in a safe environment, as is a color catalog in which the “primary” colors have exactly the same importance as “mixed”.

The process followed in Humanæ, like a game that explores the coding of human skin colors, is rigorous and systematic: the background for each portrait is tinted with a color tone identical to a sample of 11 x 11 pixels taken from the nose of the subject and matched with the industrial pallet Pantone®, which, in its neutrality, calls into question the contradictions and stereotypes related to the race issue.

During the course of Angélica Dass’ residency at HOW Art Museum, her work Humanæ will be presented in the group exhibition at HOW Art Museum (Wenzhou) titled “Pantone” (July 13, 2019 - November 8, 2019) and the artist will continue her photo-shooting of the project in Wenzhou. Hence, HOW Art Museum (Wenzhou) announces the open call for volunteers for the Humanæ Project. Regardless of your skin color, identity or age, you are welcomed to sign up for this significant art project and become a participant through the lens of Angélica Dass.

Regarding the detailed information about the open call for volunteers for the Humanæ Project, please look forward to the follow-up announcements.
