编者按：新冠肺炎疫情期间，斯里兰卡不仅以友好之情和怜悯之心治愈了中国籍游客，也以高效的应急措施限制了病毒的蔓延，更以开放的心态促进国际合作。疫情下，斯里兰卡人民恢复生产生活的努力，展现出一股积极向上的南亚力量。

When it was announced that the whole island has been required to routine work under curfew, I was stuck inside the capital city of Sri Lanka which mentioned as the high risk area and it was far from my current living place. The local government banned to enter from one district to another district. As my father was in critical situation I needed to travel home. But best thing I saw among the people was the humanity during the pandemic. With a huge effort I could drive myself to home with crossing borders during lockdown and what I felt was the world seems to have become silent for a while.

The very first Covid-19 patient in Sri Lanka reported on 27th January 2020.  She was a  44 years old Chinese tourist from Hubei province. Nearly after two weeks of treatments she was fully recovered and travelled back to China. She specially thanked the medical staff who treated her as a local family patient during her bad times. The China- Sri Lanka Friendship Association organized Buddhist prayers programme (Bodhi Pooja) to protect China from the high risk of pandemic during this time.

During the peak of the Covid-19 spreading in Wuhan, there were 33 Sri Lankans stuck inside the City. President Gotabhaya Rajapaksha decided to send a special flight to Wuhan on 1st February to evacuate all Sri Lankans from Wuhan. They kept under quarantine at the military camp in Diyatalawa For two weeks ( 2 ).

The very first local patient reported on 3rd march 2020 and he was a tour guide. From 1st of March Sri Lankans who resided in South Korea, Italy, Iran and some other countries returned to Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan military provided the facility for quarantining the locals in the military camps and state government decided to shut down all schools, entertainment services, and universities from 11th of March when it was reported with first patient in Sri Lanka. This can be mentioned as one of the most efficient decision which government made.

The on-arrival visa for foreigners closed on 11th of March. Sri Lanka can't went out the island from 20th March when it reported the total cases of 59. The all international flights and ships has been stopped from 22nd March (5) . When it was the New Year Day in Sri Lanka on 13Th April，it has hit for 233. After 50 years it has been a different New Year celebrations for Sri Lankans. The quarantine centers were controlled and conducted by the military officers. Unfortunately navy soldiers were highly effected with the Covid 19 and it mentioned as 1 out of 3 among all reported patients in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan government has taken very immediate decisions and it has ranked as the 9th best country in the word. Though Sri Lanka is still a developing country, the government provided many facilities for the citizens, such as 5000 rupees food allowances for all needed people, releasement of personal bank loans, taxes, insurance, vehicle leasing’s and other liabilities till  now. Delivering free food for high risk areas, price reduction for all essential goods and food, relief period for businessmen and loan system to pay their employees are  many things which government provided for citizens (10). Sri Lanka seems to take this outbreak as a fresh and new start, the locals started to produce many things inside the country and government currently stopped imports. The government encourages agricultural industry mainly. They have introduced new loan systems for new local entrepreneurs to come up with local productions. Many self-entrepreneurs are busy with the new productions, inventions  to support government with daily basis to fight against Corona Virus.

Sri Lanka has also introduced a new concept called “Prosperity Garden” which means encouraging the citizens to plant vegetables, herbal plants in their home gardens. Island wide agricultural departments were distributing the seeds to the homes for the home gardening. This theme named as “no one in Sri Lanka should suffer without food for one meal during this difficult time and in near future”. Many garments were making masks to offer to people freely. People started to share money, food and all other essential things with the needed people who has no income during this pandemic, such as vegetables, fruits, fish. Island wide beggars were taken care by the military. (13) The Chinese embassy in Sri Lanka also contributed financially to fight against the Corona Virus. Daily basis island wide 12000 Buddhist temples do the prayers to save the world from this pandemic at 6p.m.. People started to see the humanity inside during this outbreak specially.

From 11th May government decided to reopen the country with several restrictions. The Sri Lankans who are living in other countries can come back home by special flights. Though the patients were keep reporting  among the clustered groups,  Sri Lanka is shifting to the positive condition. After one and a half months people who were locked down are getting ready for regular routine but definitely it will be a new look for Sri Lanka with the people of positive mindset.
