印度爸爸教给儿子的七件事
Flipped（《怦然心动》）中的爸爸为了让自己有智力障碍的弟弟得到更好的照顾，牺牲了自己家庭。房子破，车子破，从未领家人去度假... 爸爸对此非常自责，这个有宽阔肩膀坚毅眼神的男人觉得自己没有别人的爸爸好。

Kunal说，爸爸要求他们每晚8：30必须一同吃晚餐，吃饭的时候还要被逼着分享自己一天都做了什么。小时候觉得这件事特别痛苦、无聊，长大后他发现这些餐桌上的时光是最宝贵的财富之一，满满的欢乐和智慧。他说他的爸爸不是“some preachy old professor of philosophy”，而是mad cool”。我们一起来看看这位酷爸爸是如何教育孩子们的吧
1⃣️ If what you want happens, GOOD. If it doesn't happen, VERY GOOD
心想事成固然好，事儿没成可能更好。当我们无法改变结果的时候，我们能做的是改变自己看事情的角度（perspective）。
2. There are two sides to every story
有同情心、同理心，尊重他人的信仰和选择。不要让情绪影响我们的判断，要讲理，也要讲情。
3. Disarm with a smile😊
disarm本身的意思是“解除...武装”，让对方缴械的意思，它也可以表示“消除某人的怒气😡”。
4. Buy a house you can afford🏠
别做房奴。
Dad viewed money as a means to an end. It wasn’t the finish line. Rather than save every single rupee to buy the biggest house, he’d rather have extra money to spend generously on food and friends and sharing. Live in a house you can afford, but eat like a king.
5. Use a Cushion (and not just for your butt)💰
cushion本身的意思是“坐垫”，坐垫的作用是让我们坐的更舒服，因此它还可以表示“减轻打击”。例如你和你的女神表白，女神没有直接拒绝你，而是给你发好人牌：“你人挺好的”。这时候她就是在cushion the blow，试图减少对你的打击。
不过cushion在这里表示给自己留条后路，无论是理财还是人生。Kunal在去费城学表演之前，他在俄勒冈州的波特兰大学学习商务专业。
Having a cushion means always having a Plan B. That’s why I stuck with my business degree before I got my master’s in acting. To have a Plan B. To have a cushion.
6. You can have soft demeanor and not be soft
想必大家都听过这段话：“男人一生要保护四样东西：脚下的土地，家里的父母，怀里的女人，身边的兄弟”。我们礼貌、客气、耐心、谦让，不代表我们就好欺负。
He might speak softly and smile with dimples and patiently discuss both sides of every issue, but when the chips were down and the tide of violence was upon us, this was a man who owned seven rifles and was willing to use them to protect his family.
7. Stand up when it counts
能够辨别是否，并且有勇气捍卫自己的信仰，该挺身而出的时候要挺身而出。Stand up when it counts中stand up表示“捍卫; 坚决维护”; when it counts的意思是when it matters，count在这里表示"to have value or importance"。
英文中有类似的表达：stand up and be counted，意思是to make your opinions or beliefs publicly known especially when such action may cause trouble，也就是“公开发声”的意思。
