The opening ceremony of the 31st International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Games began at the Dongan Lake Sports Park in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, with two key words: sunshine and dreams.

第三十一届世界大学生夏季运动会在四川省成都市东安湖体育公园隆重开幕。开幕式主题为“阳光”与“梦想”。

A 12-second countdown was launched with fireworks coming from a picture of the Golden Sun Bird, the city logo of Chengdu, at the center of the stadium, marking the beginning of the ceremony.

作为成都城市象征的“太阳神鸟”图案出现在场馆中央，焰火从图案中升起，12秒倒计时启动，拉开了开幕式的序幕。

The Golden Sun Bird represents the sun, which shines on the young athletes and their dreams. Chen Weiya, director of the ceremony, wants to show to the audience that both the Universiade and sports itself represent the spirit of fighting forward. It has been his dream to make the ceremony a magnificent event filled with sunshine.

“太阳神鸟”代表着太阳，照耀着年轻运动员们和他们的梦想。开幕式总导演陈维亚希望向观众和运动员们展示，大运会和体育本身都是奋进精神的体现。他的梦想是奉献一台“阳光灿烂”的开幕式。

A total of 11 people have died and 27 others remain missing during rainstorms in Beijing, local authorities said Tuesday.

据8月1日北京市官方消息，北京暴雨已致11人遇难，27人失联。

The deceased include four in Mentougou and two in Fangshan, the worst affected districts. Other fatalities include four in Changping District and one in Haidian District, according to the city's flood control and drought relief headquarters.

据北京市防汛抗旱指挥部消息，遇难者包括门头沟区4人、房山区2人，这些地区受灾最为严重；另有昌平区4人、海淀区1人。

The 27 people reported missing include 13 in Mentougou, 10 in Changping, and four in Fangshan.

Amid the impact of Typhoon Doksuri, continuous heavy rainfall has lashed the city since July 29, with particularly severe rainstorms in the western, southwestern, and southern parts, according to the headquarters.

北京市防汛抗旱指挥部表示，受台风“杜苏芮”影响，7月29日以来，北京遭遇持续强降雨，西部、西南部及南部地区遭遇了特别严重的暴雨。

China has earmarked 110 million yuan to support flood prevention and disaster relief work in Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei, according to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Emergency Management on Tuesday.

针对近期京津冀地区暴雨洪涝灾害，财政部、应急管理部8月1日紧急预拨1.1亿元，支持京津冀地区做好防汛救灾工作。

The gross domestic product (GDP) of 31 provinces, autonomous regions and cities of China was announced by July 30, with 15 regions surpassing the country's H1 GDP growth of 5.5 percent and 13 exceeding 6 percent, according to a report of news portal ThePaper.com on July 31, citing local statistics bureaus.

据澎湃新闻7月31日援引地方统计局的数据报道，截至7月30日，31个省份、自治区和直辖市2023年上半年GDP数据已全部出炉。15个地区上半年GDP增速高于5.5%的全国水平，13个地区上半年GDP增速超过6%。

China's GDP grew 5.5 percent year-on-year to 59.3 trillion yuan ($8.3 trillion) in the first half of 2023, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed on July 17.

国家统计局7月17日的数据显示，2023年上半年国内生产总值59.3万亿元，同比增长5.5%。

The GDP growth of Shanghai, Hainan province and Tibet autonomous region surpassed 8 percent with Shanghai as the highest at 9.7 percent.

上海、海南和西藏的GDP增速均超过8%，其中上海以9.7%的增速位列第一。

The GDP of Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces reached 6.29 and 6.05 trillion yuan, respectively, in the first half of the year, successfully crossing the six trillion yuan threshold.

从经济总量来看，广东、江苏今年上半年成功破6万亿元，分别达6.29万亿元、6.05万亿元。

The per capita disposable income of Beijing and Shanghai reached 42,870 and 41,358 yuan in the first half, topping the whole country.

A video of a black sun bear at the Hangzhou Zoo in China's Zhejiang province has recently gone viral. Many netizens noted the animal's upright posture, as well as folds of loose fur on its behind – making the bear look somewhat odd and fueling speculation that a human imposter might be masquerading in its place.

近日，杭州动物园一只黑色马来熊的视频在网上走红。一些网友注意到这只熊站立的姿势以及它背后松散的皮毛褶皱看起来有点奇怪，怀疑这只熊可能是人假扮的。

The zoo staff has denied suggestions that some of its bears were people dressed in costume, saying that "it would not last more than a few minutes before collapsing in Eastern China's extreme summer temperatures."

杭州动物园工作人员作出了回应，否认熊是人扮的，称这么高温的天气，再套个皮毛的话，人肯定坚持不了几分钟就要倒下了。
