China's Singles Day online payments hit 1.48 trillion yuan ($211 billion), according to data released by the People's Bank of China, the Chinese central bank on Tuesday.

据中国人民银行（中国中央银行）11月12日发布的数据显示，全国“双十一”期间在线支付金额达到1.48万亿元。

The Double 11 shopping spree, which falls on Nov 11 every year, saw 1.779 billion online payment transactions totaling 1.48 trillion yuan, with year-on-year growth rates of 35.49 percent and 162.6 percent, respectively, according to the central bank. 

数据显示，“双十一”购物狂欢节（每年的11月11日）期间，全国网上支付业务达17.79亿笔，在线支付金额达1.48万亿元，同比分别增长35.49%、162.6%。

The payment figure is the equivalent of having every Chinese person order about 1,000 yuan worth of merchandise.

这一支付总额相当于全国人民人均消费1000元。

Alibaba, the initiator of the Double 11 shopping carnival in 2009, achieved sales of 268.4 billion yuan this year, an increase of 26 percent compared to 2018.

“双十一”购物狂欢节由阿里巴巴集团于2009年发起，今年天猫双十一全天总交易额达到2684亿元，比2018年增长26%。

There is an extremely low risk for the spread of plague in Beijing after two cases were confirmed, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced Wednesday.

北京两例鼠疫病例发现后，中国疾病预防控制中心13日发布消息称，此次疫情进一步扩散的风险极低。

It said the two patients from XilinGol League, the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, have been quarantined and their activities since coming to Beijing have been investigated, while those suspected of exposure to the patients have been screened.

中国疾控中心消息称，已对两例来自内蒙古自治区锡林郭勒盟的病例进行隔离治疗，并对病例进京后活动情况开展了详细的调查，对可疑暴露人群进行了详细排查。

The center said it is safe for people to go to medical institutions as usual.

中国疾控中心表示，市民可正常去医疗机构就医。

It also said Beijing is not a source of the plague epidemic, and there is no plague bacillus in its natural environment, so residents would not be infected through contact with animals including mice.

据介绍，北京市不是鼠疫疫源地，自然环境中不存在鼠疫菌，市民没有通过接触鼠等动物而感染的机会。

The center said residents don't need to take special protective measures, and suggested people wash their hands regularly and avoid going to crowded places.

中国疾控中心表示，北京市民无须采取特殊的个人防护措施，应保持良好的个人卫生习惯，如勤洗手，尽量避免去人群拥挤场所。

A red bronze horse-head statue plundered from Beijing's Old Summer Palace was donated back by Macao-based tycoon and collector Stanley Ho Hung-sun and handed over to the National Cultural Heritage Administration on Wednesday. 
13日，澳门富豪、收藏家何鸿燊将国宝圆明园马首红铜铸像捐赠给国家文物局，使其正式"回家"。

The administration said the statue will be given back to the Yuanmingyuan administration. 

国家文物局表示，马首铜像将被交还给圆明园管理处收藏。

Ho purchased the national treasure at a Sotheby's auction in 2007. 

2007年，何鸿燊在苏富比拍卖行的拍卖会中购得了这尊马首铜像。

The sculpture is one of 12 bronze heads depicting zodiac animals that graced a water clock fountain in Yuanmingyuan, also known as the Old Summer Palace, which was destroyed by British and French troops in 1860. 

马首铜像是圆明园水钟喷泉中雕刻的十二尊生肖兽首铜像中的一个。1860年圆明园遭英法联军毁坏。

Ho also purchased a priceless pig-head sculpture in 2003 and donated it to the country.

Australia has had a fierce early start to the bushfire season. The blaze at the Lake Innes Nature Reserve already destroyed two-thirds of its koalas' habitat, Australia's SBS reports.

Koala Conservation Australia estimates the fires have killed 350 koalas so far, which is a huge blow to a reserve that houses a total population of around 500 to 600 koalas.

The Conservation's president Sue Ashton fears that they are "losing the battle to keep the population" because "we're losing them at a much faster rate than they're breeding." Her rescue centre is going to "take as many koalas" as they can.

A total of 60 captive panda cubs were born, 57 of which survived this year, leading to a captive panda population of 600 worldwide, China's National Forestry and Grassland Administration said Tuesday.

国家林草局11月12日表示，2019年共繁殖大熊猫60只，存活57只，全球圈养大熊猫数量达到600只。

The rising number of captive pandas showed that a healthy, dynamic and sustainable captive panda population has basically taken shape, according to the administration, adding research on wild giant pandas is also making progress.

国家林草局表示，圈养大熊猫种群数量再创新高，健康、有活力、可持续发展的圈养种群已基本形成，野生大熊猫的研究工作也取得进展。

Meanwhile, research and breeding institutions for giant pandas, including the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, are further promoting technology and innovation of panda breeding, and building key laboratories for endangered wildlife conservation, as well as establishing research partnerships with international organizations.

与此同时，包括成都大熊猫繁育研究基地在内的大熊猫科研繁育机构，深入推动技术创新，建立濒危野生动物保护重点实验室，并与国际组织建立科研合作关系。

There are fewer than 2,000 pandas living in the wild, mostly in the provinces of Sichuan and Shaanxi.

目前野生大熊猫不足2000只，主要分布在四川和陕西两省。
