Light Threads is a series of installations about light. A circular halo wanders upon a structure woven with 0.1-millimeter stainless steel wire. As you gaze at it, it gazes back at you. Each viewer, as they move, will notice a halo of light that changes in accordance with their footsteps. This is a five- rather than three-dimensional work, because light and time alters along with people. As you contemplate the halo, delving into deeper thoughts, you will discover a time-space of higher dimensionality and see the meandering shapes of light. The light will inevitably illuminate the mind and irradiate the soul.

About Artist

Yang Song

Born in 1987 in Liaoning. Graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing ,China. Yang Song currently lives and works in Beijing.

Yang Song’s sculptures are closely linked with traditional Chinese culture. His artistic practice reflects his own struggle between personal identity and social relations. In recent years, Yang Song has also tried various media besides sculpture, such as images and installations. He frequently adds his travel experience to the creation of his works, therefore, most of his works tend to explore themselves in order to approach and find the essence of life. Last year, Yang Song created some metal installations, which reflected his view on the relationship between speed, light, time and space in the opposite direction. The metal itself represents a kind of high-speed entrapment in the post-industrial era. Yang Song used machinery to accelerate the rotation of the sculpture. The outline of the sculpture gradually disappeared. The speed adhered time and space. The faster the speed, the more viscous space and time became. The place and other places became blurred and even merged at this time.

His recent solo exhibitions include “The Extend Order”, Chi Shanghai K11, Shanghai, 2023; “Peeling Earth”, Yuan Museum, Beijing, 2022; “Vanishing Point”, AYE Gallery, Beijing, 2021; “Askr Yggdrasils”, Gallery Yang, Beijing, 2017.
