Marina Bay Countdown

狮城风尚 2019-12-17
New Year celebrations in Singapore are an unforgettable affair, as fireworks illuminate our city’s iconic skyline and festivities fill our bustling streets.

While you’ll be able to soak in year-end celebrations all across our island, the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown is one of the city’s largest celebrations. Read on for the lowdown on 2020’s party, and the spectacular activities that await you.

Luminous displays and celestial spectacles

Breath-taking firework displays are a staple during Singapore’s New Year’s countdowns, and this year’s celebration pulls out all the stops.

The aptly-named ‘Star Island Singapore’ brings celestial-themed spectacle to The Float @ Marina Bay on 31 December 2019, with a six-part, 90-minute extravaganza of firework displays and electrifying performances.

If you’re unable to get your hands on tickets, fret not. Head over to the ArtScience Museum™, Ocean Financial Centre or The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore — these hotspots are great vantage points of the fireworks.

Visitors to the Civic District should keep their eyes on the neighbourhood’s iconic buildings, in the evenings leading up to the New Year. Art projections will be beamed onto the facades of the ArtScience Museum™ and The Merlion at Merlion Park from 29-31 December, and onto The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore from 26-31 December.

Feasts and family activities

What better way to celebrate the new year than to bring in the clowns? Hailing from the United Kingdom, The Great Circus of Europe is slated to perform in Singapore from 20 December 2019 to 1 January 2020.

Have an enchanting experience beneath the Big Top with international circus acts ranging from clowns and contortionists to gravity-defying acrobats and motorbike riders. Set aside enough time for a stroll through the Bayfront Event Space, which will be transformed into a carnival with rides, games, food trucks and roving performers.

The circus acts commence from 4 to 7pm, but visitors can experience the rest of the carnival’s charms any time between 3 and 11pm.

A crescendo of celebrations

Taking place at the Promontory is ‘ Let’s Celebrate 2020’ by our national broadcaster, MediaCorp. Last year’s line-up included homegrown indie sensation Gentle Bones and fashion icon Fiona Fussi. This year, visitors can expect to be entertained by a constellation of equally-talented stars.

Entry to this event is free, and you can catch the complimentary live broadcast at the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) Event Plaza.

For more live music and performances, be sure to drop by the Esplanade for ‘Voices—A Festival of Song 2019’ and ‘Come Together’, a series of events that celebrate the ability of music to connect people from all walks of life.

Other celebrations across the heart of our city include Starlight @ The Lawn and Unwind @ The Civic District, happening at The Lawn @ Marina Bay and Empress Drive to Connaught Drive. The former will be transformed into a special car-free zone where guests can unwind with food and drinks, while the latter promises a night of family friendly activities and live performances.
