植物奶的英文是啥milk？

我们先从 alternative 这个词讲起。alternative 最早可以追溯到 16 世纪中期，随着历史的车轮滚滚前行，到了 20 世纪 60 年代，它被赋予了新的含义——用来表示与寻常的或传统的不同之处。当这个概念出现后，这个词便迅速被运用到各个领域，比如

能源方面： 

alternative energy

 alternative fuel

医疗方面：

 alternative medicine

alternative therapies

也有涉及影视领域，那时出现了 alternative comedy，它通常带有左翼政治元素，打破了既定的(含有歧视性质的)喜剧刻板印象。1968 年《纽约时报》上出现了 alternative lifestyle，它与 20 世纪 60 年代的环保主义、素食主义、和平主义都密切相关。

后来，随着这个单词的使用范围越来越广，破旧立新的意味也越发浓重。

如果“alternative”有反义词的话，那大概率就是“conventional”：

you can talk about conventional medicine and conventional methods and you can say of somebody (with a hint of disapproval) that they are very conventional in their views.

你可以用保守一词形容医学和方法，以及某人的观点（稍带反对态度）。

自 20 世纪 60 年代以来，“alternative”（经常缩写为alt）由“alt”组成新词也比以前更加频繁了。除了与政治有关的词汇，最早出现的是 alt-rock，一种将传统摇滚音乐与其他音乐相结合的音乐风格。还有许多其它关于音乐的复合词，2021 年的语料库数据得出以下结果:

alt-country 另类乡村

 alt-folk 另类民谣 

alt-punk 另类朋克 

alt-pop 另类流行

alt-metal 另类金属

 alt-classical 另类古典 

alt-band 另类乐队

此外，那些含有植物性或其它替代品的食品也可以用“alt”来描述，比如：

alt-meat 人造/仿真肉类

alt-protein 人造/仿真蛋白

alt-milk 人造/仿真奶

alt-dairy 人造/仿真乳制品

这里的“alt”可以指代 all denoting plant-based alternatives to meat and dairy products。因此，像是植物肉、植物奶这样的食品，也可以说：plant-based meat 和  plant-based milk。

金融界也有类似的例子。比如：用于在线交易的 altcoins 和 alt-money。

在新版本的 Oxtord Learner's Dictionary 中，disrupt 和 disruption 也被赋予了新的含义。“disrupt”的词根释义是：to make it difficult for something to continue in the normal way，表示使某事难以正常进行。

这与 alternative 同理，“disrupt”可以视为对现状的挑战——挑战的来源可能是人类的能动性行为，也可能是任意行为的偶然结果，或者是自然的力量。比如：

• Demonstrators succeeded in disrupting the meeting.
  

• Bus services will be disrupted tomorrow because of the bridge closure.
  

• The bad weather has seriously disrupted supplies of food.

  
  

在商务英语中，disrupt 可以理解为“能为社会带来变革的科技创新之力”。人们通常认为创新是一件值得被提倡的事情，但对于传统工业来说，数字化的发展为他们带来了诸多挑战。传统的生产方式和管理系统若不能同新技术一同迭代，则会面临被淘汰的命运：

• Our radical new printing technology is disrupting traditional manufacturing.

• No industry today is immune to digital disruption.

除了上述提到的两种含义，disruptor 也可以指代能够为社会带来巨大变革的一家公司，一个人或是一种科技：These high-tech companies have expanded on their early success to become major industry disruptors.
