formulate /ˈfɔː.mjə.leɪt/ 表示“制订；规划；构想”，英文解释为“to develop all the details of a plan for doing something”如：to formulate a new plan 制订一个新计划。

We have put forward and implemented the general requirements for strengthening the Party in the new era.

earnest /ˈɜː.nɪst/ 表示“认真的；有决心的；郑重其事的；诚挚的”，英文解释为“serious and determined, especially too serious and unable to find your own actions funny”举个🌰：

We have formulated and implemented the Party’s organizational line for the new era and placed an emphasis on political commitment in selecting and appointing officials.

Political inspections have been strengthened, and a sound system of Party regulations has taken shape.

2）表示“定罪，判罪”，英文解释为“the fact of officially being found to be guilty of a particular crime, or the act of officially finding someone guilty”举个🌰：

Since it was her first conviction for stealing, she was given a less severe sentence.

由于她是初次犯盗窃罪，对她的量刑不是很重。

🎬电影《玉子》（Okja）中的台词提到：I admire your conviction, Silver, 我敬佩你的决心。

We have worked ceaselessly to improve Party conduct and enforce Party discipline.

以钉钉子精神纠治“四风”，反对特权思想和特权现象，坚决整治群众身边的不正之风和腐败问题，

We have hammered away at the task of rectifying pointless formalities, bureaucratism, hedonism, and extravagance; opposed privilege-seeking mindsets and practices; and taken strong action to address misconduct and corruption that occur at people’s doorsteps.

注：四风指形式主义、官僚主义、享乐主义和奢靡之风（pointless formalities, bureaucratism, hedonism, and extravagance）。

hammer /ˈhæm.ər/ away at sth表示“坚持不懈地努力做”，英文解释为“to work without stopping and with a lot of effort”

rectify表示“矫正；改正”，英文解释为“If you rectify something that is wrong, you change it so that it becomes correct or satisfactory.”如：rectify any errors/mistakes，举个🌰：

I did my best to rectify the situation, but the damage was already done.

我竭尽全力去挽回局面，但损害已经造成了。

hedonism /ˈhed.ən.ɪ.zəm/ 表示“享乐主义”，英文解释为“living and behaving in ways that mean you get as much pleasure out of life as possible, according to the belief that the most important thing in life is to enjoy yourself”

extravagance /ɪkˈstræv.ə.ɡəns/ 表示“奢侈，铺张”，英文解释为“behaviour in which you spend more money than you need to”举个🌰：

I think she was shocked by my extravagance.

我想，我太铺张了，她一定感到很震惊。

刹住了一些长期没有刹住的歪风，纠治了一些多年未除的顽瘴痼疾。

Thanks to these efforts, unhealthy tendencies that had long gone unchecked have been reversed, and deep-seated problems that had plagued us for years have been remedied.

1）作名词可表示“瘟疫，疫病”，如：a fresh outbreak of plague 瘟疫的新一轮爆发；

2）作动词表示“不断困扰，折磨，使苦恼”，英文解释为“to cause pain, suffering, or trouble to someone, especially for a long period of time”，举个🌰 ：

She was plagued by weakness, fatigue, and dizziness.

她受虚弱、疲劳和眩晕所折磨。

🎬电影《白宫管家》（The Butler）中的台词提到：It's time we take a stand against these injustices that have plagued our community. 现在是时候该表明立场和采取行动来对抗这些已困扰我们很久了的不公。

We have waged a battle against corruption on a scale unprecedented in our history.

🎬电影《星运里的错》（The Fault in Our Stars）中的台词提到：You are so busy being you that you have no idea how utterly unprecedented you are. 你太忙于做自己 都没有意识到自己是那么的令人心动。

以“得罪千百人、不负十四亿”的使命担当祛疳治乱，

Driven by a strong sense of mission, we have resolved to “offend a few thousand rather than fail 1.4 billion” and to clear our Party of all its ills.

不敢腐、不能腐、不想腐一体推进，“打虎”、“拍蝇”、“猎狐”多管齐下，

We have taken coordinated steps to see that officials do not have the audacity, opportunity, or desire to be corrupt, and we have used a combination of  measures to “take out tigers,” “swat flies,” and “hunt down foxes,” punishing corrupt officials of all types.

audacity /ɔːˈdæs.ə.ti/ 表示“大胆；勇气”，英文解释为“courage or confidence of a kind that other people find shocking or rude”举个🌰：

It took a lot of audacity to stand up and criticize her.

站出来批评她需要很大的勇气。

swat /swɒt/ 表示“击打，拍打（尤指昆虫）”，英文解释为“to hit something, especially an insect, with a flat object or your hand”举个🌰：

I swatted the fly with a rolled-up newspaper.

我用一张卷起的报纸拍那只苍蝇。

反腐败斗争取得压倒性胜利并全面巩固，

We have achieved an overwhelming victory and fully consolidated the gains in our fight against corruption.

消除了党、国家、军队内部存在的严重隐患，确保党和人民赋予的权力始终用来为人民谋幸福。

All this has helped remove serious hidden dangers in the Party, the country, and the military and ensured that the power granted to us by the Party and the people is always exercised in the interests of the people.

经过不懈努力，党找到了自我革命这一跳出治乱兴衰历史周期率的第二个答案，

Through painstaking efforts, the Party has found a second answer to the question of how to escape the historical cycle of rise and fall. The answer is self-reform.

自我净化、自我完善、自我革新、自我提高能力显著增强，管党治党宽松软状况得到根本扭转，风清气正的党内政治生态不断形成和发展，确保党永远不变质、不变色、不变味。

We have significantly boosted the Party’s ability to purify, improve, renew, and excel itself, addressed the problem of lax and weak self-governance in Party organizations at the root, and steadily fostered and developed a political atmosphere of integrity within the Party. By doing so, we have ensured that the Party will never change its nature, its conviction, or its character.

1）表示“净化思想（或行为）”，英文解释为“to remove immoral thoughts or acts from something”

2）表示“使（某物）洁净；净化；提纯，精炼”，英文解释为“to make sth pure by removing substances that are dirty, harmful or not wanted”举个🌰：

One tablet will purify a litre of water.

一颗丸即可净化一升水。

表示“擅长；善于；突出”，英文解释为“to be very good at doing sth”举个🌰：

She has always excelled in foreign languages.

她的外语从来都是出类拔萃。

📍excel oneself表示“比平常做得好；超水平发挥”，英文解释为“to do something better than you usually do”举个🌰：

The British team have excelled themselves this year to reach the finals.

📍2019年政府工作报告中就提到：体育健儿在国际大赛上再创佳绩。Chinese athletes excelled themselves in international competitions.

lax /læks/ 表示“不严格的；不严厉的；松散的，马虎的”，英文解释为“not severe or strong enough”举个🌰：

He took a gun through baggage control to highlight the lax security.

他携带一把枪通过了行李检查，以此引起大家对安全管理松懈这一问题的重视。

1）表示“完整”，英文解释为“the quality of being whole and complete”举个🌰：

A modern extension on the old building would ruin its architectural integrity.

在古老建筑物上附加扩建的现代建筑会破坏建筑风格的完整统一。

2）表示“正直；诚实；职业操守”，英文解释为“the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles that you refuse to change”举个🌰：

No one doubted that the president was a man of the highest integrity.

没有人怀疑总裁是个光明磊落的人。

在充分肯定党和国家事业取得举世瞩目成就的同时，必须清醒看到，我们的工作还存在一些不足，面临不少困难和问题。

As we fully affirm the remarkable achievements we have made in the cause of the Party and the country, we must not lose sight of the shortcomings in our work and the many difficulties and problems confronting us.

1）表示“证实；确认；断言”，英文解释为“to state something as true”举个🌰：

The suspect affirmed (that) he had been at home all evening.

犯罪嫌疑人声称他整个晚上都呆在家中。

2）表示“（公开）声明”，英文解释为“to publicly show your support for an opinion or idea”举个🌰：

政府声明了其致力于权利平等的承诺。

1）表示“面临（问题、任务、困难等）”，英文解释为“If you are confronted with a problem, task, or difficulty, you have to deal with it.”举个🌰：

2）表示“正视（困难局面或问题）”，英文解释为“If you confront a difficult situation or issue, you accept the fact that it exists and try to deal with it.”举个🌰：

Ecological conservation and environmental protection remain a formidable task.

formidable /fɔːˈmɪd.ə.bəl/ 表示“可怕的；令人敬畏的；难对付的”，英文解释为“causing you to have fear or respect for something or someone because that thing or person is large, powerful, or difficult”如：a formidable obstacle/task 令人生畏的障碍/任务。

一些党员、干部缺乏担当精神，斗争本领不强，实干精神不足，

Some Party members and officials lack a strong sense of responsibility, the capacity to grapple with tough challenges, and the readiness to get down to work.

1）表示“扭打；搏斗”，英文解释为“to take a firm hold of sb/sth and struggle with them”举个🌰：

Eradicating breeding grounds for corruption is still an arduous task. We have already put in place a series of measures to deal with these problems, and we must redouble our efforts to see them fully resolved.

eradicate /ɪˈræd.ɪ.keɪt/ 表示“根除；消灭；杜绝”，英文解释为“to get rid of something completely or destroy something bad”举个🌰：

The government claims to be doing all it can to eradicate corruption.

政府声称正尽其所能根治腐败。
