Student suspect arrested for fatal stabbing of USC faculty member

A 25-year-old man was stabbed on the campus of the University of Southern California[南加利福尼亚大学], in Los Angeles, the school confirmed Friday night.

The man was possibly a faculty member[教职员工], according to the Los Angeles Times and CBS. The campus paper, The Daily Trojan, reported the victim was a psychology instructor[心理系老师].

Authorities received a call at 7:30 p.m. about a victim with multiple stab wounds[多处刀伤] at the 3600 block of McClintock Avenue in Los Angeles, LAPD[洛杉矶警察局(Los Angeles Police Department)] Detective Meghan Aguilar was quoted as telling the Times. The Los Angeles Fire Department later pronounced the victim dead after finding the man at the scene,  spokeswoman Margaret Stewart confirmed to reporters.

“We want to make clear this was not a random act,” Aguilar said, according to the Times. “This victim was targeted by the suspect.”

Police later confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody[嫌犯已经被拘留]. The identities of the victim and suspect[受害者和嫌疑人的身份] were not disclosed.

A representative in USC's media office could not offer more details on Friday, but did say more details would be available later.

At about 6:30 p.m. Los Angeles time, the campus tweeted, "Police Activity: Police-related incident in progress at Seeley G Mudd bldg. No danger to USC or the community. Stay away from area."
