‘Trump won’t be the next president’: Obama

President Barack Obama[奥巴马总统] is fairly[相当地;公平地;简直] certain of one thing when it comes to next year’s election: Donald Trump[唐纳德·特朗普(美国地产大亨)] won’t succeed him in the White House. The billionaire businessman[亿万富翁商人], the frontrunner[领跑者;先锋] in the race to become the Republican party[共和党]’s White House nominee[被任命者;被提名的人;代名人], has raised hackles[使发怒;不快或厌烦] with his controversial[有争议的;有争论的] comments on immigration[外来移民;移居], gun control[枪支管理法] and women, among other issues.

“I don’t think he’ll end up being president of the United States,” Obama said in the interview, which aired on Sunday. Trump’s incendiary[煽动性的] comments on immigration[外来移民;移居] and other issues have dominated[控制,支配;处于支配地位] the campaign and offended many Americans, but he nevertheless has seen his poll numbers[民意支持率] climb steadily higher. In his “60 Minutes” interview, the Democratic[民主的;民主政治的] president pointed to “genuine[真实的,真正的;诚恳的] anti-immigrant[反对移民] sentiment[感情,情绪;情操;观点;多愁善感] in a large portion of[大部分] at least Republican primary voters,” although he stressed it was not “uniform.” Obama, who is currently completing his second term after winning elections in 2008 and 2012, said he had no regrets about term limits that prevent him from running again.
